Vaughan-Bassett Closes After Water Tank Collapse; 1 InjuredGALAX, VA - A water tower collapse at Vaughan-Bassett has injured one worker and damaged one of its furniture manufacturing plants in Galax, VA. News reports say the 200,000-gallon tower collapsed April 10 at approximately 11:30 a.m.

WSLS 10 reports the worker suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK. Damage to the dust collection and electrical systems have led to the temporary closure of the main part of Plant 1, with five departments still open: veneer, the glue room, lumberyard and shipping. Plant 2 remains open.

The cause of the tank collapse is under investigation. An estimated 150,000 gallons of water were washed into a nearby creek behind the building.

Vaughan-Bassett has factories in Galax and Elkin, NC, and employs more than 700 people, according to the company website. The residential furniture manufacturer is the largest producer of wooden adult bedroom furniture in the United States.
