Interprint Develops Wide Panel High Speed Inkjet Printing Press

ARNSBEG, GERMANY - Interprint, whose decor papers and films are widely used in laminate panel and moulding production, has inaugurated a high-speed, wide format inkjet system, the KBA RotaJET VL, for digitally printed decorative panels.

The RotaJET VL digital press, which can handle substrates 5.2 feet to 6.6 feet wide, is based on a modular RotaJET L platform developed for corrugated package printing by HP and KBA, a German printing press manufacturer. It is available in five different web widths from 35.2 - to 51.1 inches.

Inkjet heads, which like other electronic components such as LED lamps and microchips, undergo constant improvement. KBA says the press can be retrofitted with future generations of printing heads. The RotaJET VL press adopted by Interprint has a 5.2 foot width.

Decorative paper companies print longer runs of laminate materials on gravure printing presses. For samples, the firms have been adopting digital presses in recent years. These presses are driven by the same digital image files that engrave the gravure cylinders for longer runs.

In 2011 and 2012, Interprint  installed a digital décor sample production system at locations in Germany, Italy, Poland, Malaysia, China and the U.S. The same image files can also drive the RotaJET platform for very short runs of decor papers.
