Hardwood Plywood Earns FSC Award for Columbia Forest Products

Hardwood Plywood Earns FSC Award for Columbia Forest ProductsNEW ORLEANS – At a Greenbuild 2014 awards ceremony, The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) presented hardwood plywood and veneer manufacturer, Columbia Forest Products, with the FSC Leadership Award for leadership in the building materials manufacturing sector.

Columbia Forest Products has supplied North American manufacturers with decorative hardwood plywood veneer panels for approximately 60 years. The FSC U.S. Leadership Award selection committee selected Columbia Forest Products for the award based on its dedication to producing FSC-certified wood products and educating consumers about FSC practices.

“For over 15 years, Columbia has partnered with FSC US and the Rainforest Alliance staff to maintain independently audited, certified, chain-of-custody and Forest Management certification,” said Columbia Forest Products CEO, Brad Thompson.

Thompson also noted that the FSC led Columbia Forest products to support the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program, which prompted the innovation of the company’s formaldehyde-free, PureBond soy-based assembly technology.

FSC initiatives also helped Columbia develop standards for legal wood procurement under the Lacey Act, Thompson added.

Recipients of the 2014 FSC Leadership Awards include Kimberly-Clark, Domtar, C.F. Martin Guitar, Scholastic, RoyOMartin, F.D. Sterritt Lumber, WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network, Jameson French, Sustainable Northwest Wood and Richard Donovan and Dr. Robert Hrubes.
