The year 2009 started off very badly for the owners of Deslaurier Custom Cabinets when a New Year's Day fire destroyed much of the company's 95,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Renfrow, ON.

But through shear determination and will, owners Jim Deslaurier and Denis Staples, not only rebuilt their company but made it stronger than ever. So complellling is their company's rise from the ashes, that Desloaruier and Staples are profiled in the No. 1 best-selling book, That'll Never Work: Business Lessons from Successful Canadian Entrepreneur.

Staples, president of Deslaurier Custom Cabinets, will be a featured speaker at Wood Tech Summit, October 22-23 in Vancouver, BC. He will discuss his company's state-of-the-art finishing operation on the opening day's Wood Finishing Conference. He will deliver the keynote speech on day two of Wood Tech Summit, giving a personal narrative of how he, how partner and fellow employees found opportunity in tragedy to build a more modern, productive and greener manufacturing plant.

Deslaurier Custom Cabinets was up and running by the summer of 2009, producing kitchen and bath cabinets in an all-new 50,000-square-foot facility, complete with the latest CNC machining and finishing technology. The company's products are of higher quality in terms of accuracy, construction and finish. In addition, the new plant provides environmental benefits in terms of energy and waste reduction.
