WMS 2013: Canada's Wood Show Gets Ready to Rock

Canada’s biggest industrial woodworking show — North America’s third largest — is on the verge of a sell-out.

The Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo (WMS 2013) is far outpacing WMS 2011 in terms of number of exhibitors, contracted exhibit space and pre-registered attendance. The biennial trade show is set for Oct. 24-26 at the International Centre in Mississauga (Toronto) Ontario.

WMS 2013 will showcase woodworking technology from many of the woodworking industry’s leading names, including: Cantek, Felder, Genera International, Holz-Her, IMA/Schelling, James L. Taylor, Safety Speed Mfg., Scm Group, Thermwood and Weinig.

On the supply side, big names like Blum, Flakeboard, Grass, Hettich, Richelieu, Tafisa and Uniboard are set to display their hardware and board products.

Wood finishing is one of the largest WMS 2013 categories this year and includes Becker Acroma, Gemini, ICA, Renner, Sherwin-Williams and Valspar on the material side, and EXEL, Makor, Miltec UV, Superfici and Venjakob on the equipment side.

In addition, the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA) is hosting an American Technology Pavilion while four of Canada’s largest woodworking machinery distributors — Akhurst, CNC Automation, Normand Machinery and Taurus Craco — have booked big booth spaces to represent the wares of a variety of European, North American and Asian equipment makers.

WMS 2013 also will feature a free education conference. Presentations will cover a variety of topics, from key issues related to combustible dust and architectural woodwork quality standards, through increasing plant productivity and training new woodworkers.

Adding to the importance of WMS 2013 is the Wood Tech Summit Leadership Conference, set to take place Wednesday, Oct. 23, the day before the start of the show. Wood Tech Summit will feature some of Canada’s most innovative wood products manufacturers executives who will share some of their best practices. Flakeboard and General International are among the sponsors of WMS 2013.

WMS 2013 organizers have contracted the nearby Four Points by Sheraton to serve as the event’s headquarters hotel. Reservations for the group rate of $120 per night can be made on the WMS website or by phoning (905) 678-1400. For more information and to register, visit WoodworkingExpo.ca.
