GRAND RAPIDS, MI - For companies serious about continuous improvement, Leitz Tooling System's VariPlan Plus planerhead offers practical ways to increase quality and decrease waste. Using the RipTec knife technology for pre-planing or integrating with smooth knives, VariPlan Plus promises to increase the smoothness of rustic and even difficult-to-machine woods, while decreasing the prevalence of chipping, says the manufacturer. For outstanding performance, solid HS or carbide knives are reversible and can be sharpened up to six times without changing diameter. Knife changes are quick, easy, and exceptionally accurate.
Leitz also is introducing the WhisperCut Plus milling cutterhead (pictured), which features low-profile, dust- control gullets that direct 95% of the chips away from cutting tips and toward dust collection intake, while dramatically reducing processing noise (-5 db). The lightweight body provides a smoother jump, and is easy on spindle bearings. Diamond tips can be sharpened up to 10 times, and the reusable cutter body is re-tooled at a fraction of the cost for diamond-tipped heads.
