Wood flooring finishes add value, trade group tells consumers
The National Wood Flooring Association, with more than 3,200 wood flooring professionals members, is making a push to educate consumers, architects, designers, and builders on the uses and benefits of wood flooring. In their latest effort, the group advises that wood flooring finishes are more environmentally friendly than ever before

"Surface finishes are very popular today because they are durable, water-resistant and require minimal maintenance," the release, geared to the novice consumer, explains. "Surface finishes are blends of synthetic resins. These finishes most often are referred to as urethanes or polyurethanes, and remain on the surface of the wood to form a protective coating. They generally are available in high-gloss, semi-gloss, satin and matte finishes."

The NWFA goes on to explain the difference between wax and acrylic impregnated finishes and how they sholud be maintained to extend the life of the wood floor.
