STOW, OH — When wood technology education teacher Garrett Mattes saw videos of the devastation in Haiti after the recent earthquake, he decided to take action. Mattes put students in his woodworking class at Stow-Munroe Falls High School in Stow, OH, to work, designing and fabricating wood crutches for the victims.
Local supplier Hartville Hardware got on board and donated lumber for the project, according to a report on WKYC-TV. In two weeks, the students made 100 sets of crutches.
