SAN FRANCISCO --

PBteen, a division of Williams-Sonoma, has issued a voluntary safety recall of approximately 5,900 Sleep and Study Loft Beds. The recall was conducted in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to the CPSC, the side rail on the bed can crack or split, allowing the mattress support to collapse. PBteen has received seven reports of incidences, including one where the child sustained lacerations to his head when the side rail split as he was climbing down the ladder.

Manufactured in Vietnam, the recalled beds were sold online and in PBteen stores in Georgia, New York and Illinois, between January 2008 and July 2010. Consumers are instructed to contact the company to schedule installation of a free replacement side rail support bracket. For information call PBteen toll-free at (877) 494-9822.
