OSHA to examine lumber yard worker's death
DEWITT, NY

- OSHA says it will investigate the death of a lumber yard worker, killed in an apparent wood cutting machine accident. Local media in DeWitt, NY report that Thomas Pelton was doing maintenance Monday at 5:30 am at B&B Lumber, just outside Syracuse, when a co-worker accidentally switched on the machine and Pelton was killed.

The Post Standard reports that OSHA's Syracuse office could take up to six months to complete its investigation. The paper says Pelton was changing blades on the machine at the time of the accident.

Based in Jamesville, NY, and owned by brothers Jeffrey and Gary Booher, B&B Lumber started in 1973 making pre-cut cants for pallet manufacturers, according to its website. The current operation consists of a sawmill producing 5 million board feet of grade hardwood lumber, a scrag mill producing 16 million board feet of pallet lumber, a pallet mill building 1.5 million pallets annually and 7 dry kilns. Altogether B&B Lumber processes more then a 100,000 tons annually. The Boohers own several thousand acres of timberland and have two company logging crews.
