ONTARIO, CANADA —

Ontario has become the first Canadian province to brand locally produced wood products. According to the Ontario Minister’s office, the new Ontario Wood logo can be used on furniture, lumber, flooring, etc., providing an easy reference for consumers desiring to “buy local and support the economy.”

Members of the woodworking industry collaborated on the new logo, which will begin use this summer.

Wood and the manufacture of wood products is an important industry in Canada, especially in the north. According to the Ministry office, Ontario has more than 71 million hectares of forest and approximately 85 billion trees. An estimated 200,000 families in 260 communities are supported by the wood products industry.
