- MarketCraft, a Newberg, OR, manufacturer of wood and mixed-material store displays, signage and custom interior components, says it has begun production on the first U.S. Cojet heavy duty industrial inkjet printer.

Opened in January 2011, MarketCraft does most of its volume in retail store fixtures for national brands such as Intel, Calloway, and footwear firm Keen. It also fashions complete retail interiors: currently it is manufacturing and will install the complete interior signage and display fixtures for three New Seasons Market stores, a local grocery chain.

Company president John Johnson says the Anderson Cojet inkjet printer was selected to fulfill MarketCraft's business model of single-source production of retail store fixtures. The Cojet, which uses a five-color Konica inkjet head printing at 720 dots per inch resolution, eliminates the need for outsourcing screen printing to other vendors.

The Anderson Cojet provides a unique capability - the vacuum on its heavy duty table is fed by 10-hp Becker pump, the most powerful in the market, makes a firm grasp on very heavy workpieces. The table is able to hold  even very heavy sheets of plywood or MDF, securely in place for tight-register imprinting by the inkjet head.

Among the range of options possible with the inkjet printer:  MDF and cardboard can be imprinted to simulate wood grain (shown); or plywood and reclaimed wood can be imprinted with weathered or distressed looks. MarketCraft has even used the Cojet to print granite and Pennsylvania Bluestone.

The inkjet heads, bracketed by dual UV curing lamps, are situated within an imprinting housing - the latter mounted on a gantry that progresses down the workpiece as the head imprints in lateral sweeping motion. A fifth color white ink is frequently used as an underlay to cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks to provide precise color matches to clients requiring accurate brand identity. The pigmented inks hold color and are formulated with a water base.

In addition to the Anderson Cojet imprinting, MarketCraft operates a metal crafting shop for creating custom hardware and metal components; vinyl sign cutting and laser etching devices; a large-volume paint room drawn from an automotive industry design; and a complete woodworking shop. In the MarketCraft woodshop are an SCMi Pratex 48NST  flat-bed CNC router; Delta tablesaw and Delta compound miter saws; Genesis 1435 SE edgebander; Striebig vertical panel saw with Digitron digital controls; and sanding equipment.
