WHEATON, IL —

In a move said to solidify the industry, the National Closet Group (NCG) recently announced it would become a specialized “affinity group” under the auspices of the Association of Closet and Storage Professionals (ACSP).

ACSP past president and board member, Diana Augspurger, who is also an NCG member through her company, Creative Storage, Buffalo, NY, will act as the Board liaison. David Linda from Spaceman, in Houston, TX, will lead the NCG steering committee.

NCG was formed in January 2000 in Coconut Grove, FL, when 13 independent closet companies met together under the direction of Mike Carson, owner of Closet Works in Elmhurst, IL. In 2005 the group totaled 55 members, all premier closet companies with exclusive, non-competing territories.

According to the association, by the end of 2005, the NCG Board had determined that an all-inclusive association was needed to promote the entire closet industry. The Association of Closet and Storage Professionals was created to represent independents, franchises, dealerships, suppliers, vendors and anyone else associated with closets and storage. As ACSP developed its programs, NCG regrouped as an exclusive buying group, which has continued to share confidential information.

Considered the premier association for the industry, the ACSP is also a co-sponsor of the annual Closets & Home Organization Conference & Expo. CLOSETS magazine, sister publication to Custom Woodworking Business and Wood & Wood Products, is the official publication of the ACSP. The magazine is the fourth annual recipient of the ACSP’s Pioneer Award.
