Wood Certification Co-op Gains FSC CertificationLEXINGTON, KY – The Center for Forest and Wood Certification, an adjunct of the University of Kentucky, Department of Forestry Extension, recently earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).

The Center for Forest and Wood Certification was established to build wood certification capacity in the mid-region of the United States, extending from Kentucky and Virginia through Ohio, Illinois and Missouri. Among its activities are assisting forest landowners, sawmills and secondary wood product manufacturers through education and training programs, technical assistance, group certification and certification management.

“The Center for Forest and Wood Certification is commendably helping small scale, family-owned forest businesses gain access to certification,” said Robert Hrubes, senior vice president of SCS. “FSC certification can give rural landowners recognition in the marketplace for their responsible management of forest resources.”
