United Furniture opening big plant in CaliforniaVICTORVILLE, CA - United Furniture Industries, Okolonka, MS, says it will launch manufacturing and warehousing operations for Simmons Upholstery in a 500,192-square-foot industrial facility in Victorville, CA.

United Furniture Industries will produce Simmons Upholstery sofas, recliners and hide-a-bed sleepers at in a plant currently in use by M&M Mars. United Furniture will take over half the space.

United Furniture Industries emerged in 2000 from the merger and acquisitions of Comfort Furniture, Parkhill Furniture, and United Chair. In December 2008, UFI received the exclusive licensing agreement as the U. S. manufacturer of Simmons Upholstery furniture.

The company employs 1,700 employees in 2.7 million square feet of production space  in Okolona, Hatley and Amory, MS; and Archdale, High Point and Lexington, North Carolina. 

“We plan to complete a soft opening of manufacturing and distribution operations in November,” says Bob Cottam, a spokesperson for United Furniture Industries.  Hiring will begin for local workers in October. United Furniture Industries expects to employ more than 100 people by early first quarter 2012, with a total 400 positions within three to four years.
