Vaughan-Bassett Furniture To Star in Tom Hanks HBO Mini SeriesFactory Man, the bestseller based on Vaughan-Bassett Furniture chairman John Bassett III’s fight to take on China’s furniture manufacturers and save American jobs, will soon be made into a mini-series for HBO.

According to published reports, actor Tom Hanks and producer Gary Goetzman plan to co-produced the project through their production company, Playtone, which has also produced such Emmy-award winning hits as Band of Brothers, The Pacific and John Adams.

Factory Man was written by journalist Beth Macy and chronicles Bassett’s battle to save the American furniture industry, as well as his family’s legacy. The book, released July 15, was reviewed in the August edition of Wood Products magazine. A longer excerpt is scheduled for the November issue - now relaunched as Woodworking Network magazine.

Basset also was honored as a Wood Industry Market Leader by Wood Products for his years of industry leadership as well as his efforts in leading the bedroom furniture antidumping petition against China, which the American Furniture Manufacturers Committee for Legal Trade won in 2004.

“We never lost faith in the ability of American workers to compete and succeed,” Bassett said.
