Shamrock says the 69,000 square foot addition, announced in May, allows it to vertically integrate its operations. The 10-coat automated finish process will also establish a unique niche in the flooring market, says Jack Shannon, Jr., president, since the new pre-finishing line is the first of its kind in the U.S., and was designed to Shamrock's specifications.

"By overseeing the process from standing timber to finished flooring, we have quality control throughout every step," Shannon says. "The techniques and processes we have in place are second to none."

Shamrock partnered with Valspar in development of the 10-coat finishing system, which uses scratch-resistant aluminum oxide, and will impart a cutting edge dual tone color, according  to Shannon. It will be featured in Shamrock Plank Flooring's Rancho Madera, German Gasthaus and Irish Pub flooring lines.

Valspar worked with Shannon to develop the dual-tone color process using water base and UV Solid stains. Shannon says these bring out the beauty in each flooring plank, and enhance the depth and texture of the distressing technique.

"The addition of the pre-finishing plant allows us to offer designer colors and textures, and even the ability to create custom colors, that the designers, architects and contractors want and the market place needs," says Shannon.

Shamrock Plank Flooring offers the Heritage Collection, a full line of pre-finished smooth products, as well as distressed flooring featuring hand scraped, hand sculpted and wire brushed planks. Shamrock Plank Flooring is a manufacturer of unfinished and prefinished wood flooring utilizing both traditional solid and proprietary "Environeered" platforms.

Established in the late 1880's as The Shannon Lumber and Stave Company, the family owned business's current president, Jack Shannon, says the he was also motivated to create jobs in the U.S.

"I wanted to bring jobs back to American workers and to our local community," Shannon says. "The new techniques we are using are unique, and I'm proud to have this located here in the U.S.A."
