AUGUSTA, WV – Shingleton Timber & Trucking Inc., a manufacturer of lumber, has been fined $49,500 for noise and safety hazards by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA cited Shingleton Timber for repeat violations for failing to establish a baseline audiogram, institute a noise training program, conduct annual noise training and obtain an annual audiogram. OSHA said it issued citations for similar violations in 2009.

Shingleton Timber, which employs 23 people at the Augusta facility, was also cited for several serious violations including failing to provide a standard railing adjacent to a moving conveyor, provide an energy control program and implement feasible and administrative controls to reduce noise exposure.

OSHA inspected Shingleton Timber in January as part of its National Emphasis Program on Amputations.
