Laid-Off Andersen Window Workers Get $656K in Grant AidWASHINGTON - Approximately 150 workers laid off late last year by Andersen Windows & Doors are covered in a $656,098 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to provide employment-related assistance.

Most of the laid-off employees worked at Andersen's Bayport, MN, facility; a few worked at the Renewal by Andersen facility in Cottage Grove, MN.

Andersen Windows announced in November that it would lay off about 250 of its total 9,000 employees due to the prolonged housing slump.

The Andersen Window grant is being awarded to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development to be used for training and re-employment support services in conjunction with Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits.

"Even as our economic recovery picks up steam, workers in the hardest hit industries like residential construction face significant headwinds," said  Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Jane Oates. "These funds will help them obtain the training and support services they need to compete for good jobs."
