ANN ARBOR, MI -- KraftMaid Cabinetry, a division of Masco Cabinetry, recently laid off approximately 175 employees at its manufacturing plants in Orwell and Middlefield, OH.
A company spokesperson cited the prolonged weak housing market and economy as deciding factors in the company's action. KraftMaid still has 1,234 hourly and 339 salaried workers, according to the Warren Tribune Chronicle.
In September, equipment at KraftMaid's mega plant in West Jordan, UT, was put up for auction. The 840,000-square-foot facility, developed to the tune of $106 million, opened in April 2007 and closed in December 2008.
