Update: HMU Office Furniture Refurbisher Firm Buys FactoryRICHMOND, VA - HMU llc, a commercial office furniture refurbishment firm, acquired a 128,650-square-foot building in Richmond, VA, for $2.15 million from Sachs Investing Co. of New York, NY, according to Porter Realty, its agent in the deal.

The building, constructed in 1971, is located in the Jefferson Davis Corridor, according to CoStar Group, a commercial real estate information company. As part of a comprehensive revitalization project, the corridor includes an enterprise zone that offers state and local incentives for business relocations.

Not affiliated with Herman Miller, HMU says it is the largest remanufacturer of Herman Miller A02 on the East Coast, with dealers in  30 states carrying its product lines.

HMU, headed by Dean Williams, acquired competitor Open Plan Systems in 2008 and employs over 120. At the time HMU sales were reported at over $20 million.
