Henkel Harris Buyer A.G. Capital to Restart ProductionWINCHESTER, VA. - High-end furniture maker Henkel Harris could resume production as early as April following announcement of its purchase by A.G. Capital, a limited liability company.

The 67-year-old company shuttered its doors the end of 2012, citing tough market conditions and overseas competition. Approximately 130 people worked at the family-owned operation, producing 18th and 19th century antique reproductions at the approximately 300,000-square-foot facility in Winchester, VA.

According to a report in the Northern Virginia Daily, A.G. Capital, which is owned by the Gum family, is handling the acquisition in two steps: it has purchased the assets and will close on the real estate in a separate deal to be finalized shortly. The Gum family also owns National Fruit Co.

David Gum, president, CEO and chairman of National Fruit Co., told the Northern Virginia Daily he considers Henkel Harris furniture to be “the best quality furniture sold in the world, certainly in the United States.” The company said it plans to rehire as many of the laid off workers as possible.
