Composite Wood Panel Shipments Up 5% YTD Over 2011LEESBURG, VA - Particleboard and MDF shipments continue to improve over last year, with the latest year-to-date figures through November showing a 5.1% increase over the 2011 time period.

According to the Composite Panel Assn., November's North American composite panel shipments totaled 450 MMSF, up 10.7% from 406 MMSF on a 3/4-inch basis compared to the same period a year ago. The association reports particleboard shipments totaled 256 MMSF, up 5.6% from November 2011, while MDF shipments totaled 162 MMSF, up 19.2% for the same time period. Year-to-date , MDF shipments on a 3/4-inch basis are at 1,942 MMSF, up 12.4% over 2011 while particleboard shipments are up 1%, reaching 2,956 MMSF on a 3/4-inch basis. Common uses for particleboard and MDF include kitchen and bath cabinetry, residential and office furniture, closet systems and store fixtures.

CPA reports hardboard rose 13.3% on a 1/8-inch basis, totaling 196 MMSF in November compared to the same period a year ago. Year-to-date shipments are up 5.9% compared to 2011, reaching 2,544 MMSF on a 1/8-inch basis. Common uses for this material include paneling, office and residential furniture, and perforated pegboard.
