Cabinet maker American Woodmark saw sales rise 20 percent

American Woodmark Sales Leap 24%WINCHESTER, VA - American Woodmark Corp. (NASDAQ: AMWD) net sales rose by 24% compared with the second quarter of the prior fiscal year to $159.8 million.

The cabinetry manufacturer reported double‑digit sales gains in each of its sales channels during the second quarter of fiscal year 2013, led by new construction sales growth of more than 40%.

American Woodmark manufactures cabinets under three major brands: American Woodmark, Shenandoah Cabinetry, and Timberlake Cabinetry, selling more than 400 cabinet lines through a network of independent dealers and distributors, and directly to major builders and Lowe's and The Home Depot. American Woodmark operates 11 manufacturing sites in Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, and nine builder service centers across the country.

Net income excluding restructuring charges was $2.0 million for the second quarter of fiscal year 2013, compared with a net loss of $3.0 million in the year prior. Results in fiscal year 2013 included  restructuring costs of $100,000 related to the permanent closure of two manufacturing plants in April and May this year.
