Amazon will sell professional home services including remodeling and decorating, handyman and home maintenance, among over 700 categories, overlapping with Angie's List, Pro.com, Porch,com, Lowe's, and Home Depot's Red Beacon, and Houzz. Amazon vets providers and guarantees the work.




It's True: Termites Prefer California to Texas

Termites vote with the feet, selecting California as the top state to live. Texas was a close second, with cities in both states moving up in Terminix ranking of most termite-ridden cities. Termite damage to homes costs more than $8,000 on average, $5 billion overall damage nationwide.

Britten Studios, a retail and building signage firm, has acquired Eyewood Design, the Interlochen, MI woodworking business. Britten, based in Traverse City, MI, has rebranded Eyewood as Britten Woodworks.


Pipe Organ Restoration Woodshop Hit by Fire

A fire destroyed the main woodshop of J. Allen Farmer, Inc. on March 12. No one was injured. The Winston-Salem, NC, firm specializes in rebuilding pipe organs, and had just delivered its most recent commission.
