How Lumber-eating Beetle Skirted Import Rules Was Most Viewed

A powderpost beetle infestation in a Pennsylvania sideboard  - originally imported from Asia - shows weaknesses remain in global inspection and enforcement of wood pests. The blight of the emerald ash borer began through untreated wood in skids. This particular beetle family met its match at the hands of our popular bloggist Chuck Ray, also known as Dr. Charles D. Ray,  Associate Professor of Wood Operations Research at Pennsylvania State University.

Powderpost beetles eat wood into a fine, flourlike powder explains University of Michigan's extension service. They can damage and, in some cases, eventually destroy (by completely tunneling) all exposed wood in houses, including furniture and paneling. They enter the wood as it is being cured, notes Pennsylvania State University's site.
