Pollock is perhaps best known as the designer of the iconic Executive Chair, which he developed for Knoll and realeased in 1965. The design, which incorporated an aluminum rim and upholstered back and seat, remains popular today.

After disappearing from the public eye for a number of years, Pollock was sought out by Bernhardt Design President Jerry Helling, who convinced the designer to return to the spotlight in collaboration with the company. (Watch video Finding Charles Pollock, below.) Commissioned by Bernhardt, Pollock's CP Lounge Collection made its debut in 2012. The CP is distinguished by large loop stitches around the perimeter of the chair, unlike previous designs with metal rims.

A self-described workaholic, Pollock was born in Philadelphia in 1930. He later moved with his family to Detroit, where he graduated from Cass Tech High School. He later attended the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute in New York.
