United Cabinet Holdings Acquires Tru-Wood Cabinets

GREENSBORO, NC – Tru-Wood Cabinet Co., a manufacturer of wood cabinets, closets and garage systems of Ashland, AL, has been acquired by United Cabinet Holdings (UHC).

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Tru-Wood, founded in 1990, was an early proponent of all-hardwood cabinetry. The company employs 130 full-time workers and has 370,000 square feet of combined manufacturing space in Ashland and Lineville, AL. In addition, Tru-Wood operates a distribution facility in Longwood, FL. Its products are sold through independent kitchen and bath dealers throughout the Eastern United States.

The buy-out was coordindated by United Cabinet Holding in partnership with Tru-Wood Cabinet President David Rush. The transaction will provide growth capital for the business and liquidity for CEO Buddy Sharpe, who retired post-transaction after twenty-three years with the business.  Rush will continue in operational management with Tru-Wood and remains a shareholder.

Butch Reimer, who previously worked for Norcraft Companies LP and MasterBrand Cabinets, is joining Tru-Wood as president. Mr. Reimer previously worked for NorCraft Companies L.P., where he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for UltraCraft Cabinetry for over six years.

In addition, Dan Conner, whose background includes working for Associated Materials and KraftMaid Cabinetry, has joined UCH as chief information officer.

UHC was established in February 2012 by Building Industry Partners of Ft. Worth, TX.  UCH invests in North American regional kitchen and bath cabinetry manufacturers, beginning in February 2012 with its purchase of Touchstone Fine Cabinetry in Rutherfordton, NC.
