It's déjà vu for Devoe Martin of Affordable Closets Plus, back-to-back Overall Winner of the annual Top Shelf Design Awards presented at a gala awards reception April 9 during the Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo in Somerset, NJ.

Martin bested all 2014 Top Shelf Award entries with his James Bond-esque “Unique Dressing Room Going Up or Going Down” project, a combination of glitz and gadgetry. The top of the Top Shelf Award entry also won top honors in "Closet: Wood more than 18 linear feet" category. Martin won three categories in the 2013 Top Shelf Design Awards, plus was the Overall Winner for his Hidden "Treasure Trove Dressing Room."

Closet Designer Devoe Martin Wins Best of Top Shelf Awards AgainFor this year's best-of-the-best entry, Martin designed a unique dressing room that involved converting approximately one-third of a three-car garage. The 22-foot by 11-foot dressing room features 24-inch maple wood cabinets custom painted with a glaze finish. The cabinets are adorned with glass fronts, back-lit by LED lights, and raised panel doors.

Additional storage is provided by a pair of window seats with custom upholstery cushions and a vanity with a granite top.

Martin said several features of the room give it a "futuristic or maybe James Bond feel." For example a pneumatic vacuum elevator transports passengers up to the master bedroom. The room also has a hidden biometric safe and a key-less secret passage door into the now two-car garage.

Other luxury amenities include motorized pull-down closet rods, crystal chandeliers, a storage area for spirits, four jewelry drawers, three more drawers for other accessories and two hampers.

Martin said he created his design using a combination of Cabinetvision software and hand-drawn renderings.

Martin and his wife Angela, co-owners of Affordable Closets Plus, based in Bangor, PA, have been in business for more than 20 years.
