Uniboard Canada Acquisition by Kaycan FinalizedLAVAL, QC - Kaycan Ltd. says it has closed on its acquisition of Uniboard Canada.

Kaycan, which employs 1,200, entered into an all cash for shares deal with Uniboard's parent company Pfleiderer Canada Inc. on September 5.

The Uniboard facilities sold to Kaycan include three particleboard lines, one MDF line, five  thermofused melamine lines, a resin plant and two laminate flooring lines. The operations serve markets in the U.S. Northeast and Midwest, and in Canada.

Headquartered in Montreal, privately held Kaycan says Uniboard extends its decorative reach from the exterior to the interior of houses and opens up new commercial, non-residential and institutional market segments.

"We continue in developing a unique offering to our client base," said Kaycan's president, Lionel Dubrofsky, "combining an enlarged range of products for interior and exterior home as well as commercial decoration.

The Uniboard Quebec-based facilities have a total annual capacity of 640 million square feet of raw particleboard, high-density and medium-density fiberboard, half of it converted into  melamine and laminate flooring products.

Uniboard Canada, with 800 employees, is the only laminate floor producer in Canada. Uniboard is the largest supplier of thermofused melamine panels in North America, and is the largest composite panel manufacturer in Canada and among the top four in North America.
