Metrie Moulding & Millwork Shuts U.S Plant; Work Heads to CalgaryMONROE, WA - Wood moulding manufacturer Metrie says it will close Monroe, WA plant, laying off 54 employees, and moving the work to another of its locations in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The company filed at notice with the State of Washington Employment Security Division on October 9 stating that the layoffs become effective November 27, 2014.

Formerly known as Moulding & Millwork, the Vancouver, BC based firm rebranded at Metrie in February. Founded in 1926, Metrie employs 1,200 at eight solid wood and MDF manufacturing facilities, plus 26 distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada.

John Anderson, Metrie's VP human resources, told the Everett Herald, "We've got a good team in Monroe. They've contributed to our success, but we have a state-of-the-art facility in Calgary."

Metrie says it is working to place its employees with other area manufacturers. Two other Washington plants, in Ferndale and Sumner, employ 135
