Witmer Wood Products’ dovetail drawers in brown soft maple are primarily selected from red leaf maple, which is a soft maple. The company says its brown soft maple drawers have little sapwood and are primarily fabricated from the heartwood of red leaf maple, which has variations of brown. According to Witmer, this is an economical way to lower drawer costs, while keeping dovetail quality. Witmer adds that brown soft maple is also green because it is an under-utilized species.
