3M Cubitron II Abrasive sanding Belts 991FZ

3M introduces two new Cubitron II Abrasive Belts, 991FZ and 990FZ, which offer high strength and advanced belt manufacturing technology for woodworking applications. The 991FZ has closed coat construction, which extends abrasive belt life and produces a uniform finish, says 3M. The 990FZ has an open coat construction, which the company says reduces loading and increases  the cut rate for greater stock removal. When used on a belt sander, the abrasive belts are designed to wear evenly and provide consistency at any pressure, adds 3M. The 3M Industrial Abrasive Belts can be used in a wide range of applications, including building cabinetry or furniture, dimensioning lumber or processing panel products such as MDF, Particle Board, OSB or Plywood. Pictured is the 3M Cubitron II Cloth 991FZ for use with edge sanders and wide belt sanders.

I have been a faithful user of 3m abrasives for over 30 years. I have always been willing to pay a significant premium to get the best quality abrasives available. However lately some 3m products have been cheapened to the point of being non competative with other products. For example the 5" adhesive discs we use have been changed and are now lasting half as long as they used to. Obviously 3m has gotten complaints about this and the response has been to discontine this product and replace it with one costing 60% more. I am now testing other abrasives and having good performance and saving money. Good job 3M
