PARKERSBURG, WV  — Woodcraft is encouraging woodworkers and others to become partners in supporting young woodworking designer/builders by donating to the Woodcraft Fresh Wood Project – donations that will be matched by Woodcraft up to $10,000.

(Photo: Expo Ease) The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS) founded the Fresh Wood competition in 1999 to promote woodworking and design education programs and students pursuing careers within these fields. It is an industry-sponsored competition for serious woodworking students who are anticipating a career in the wood and related industries. The contest is open to students in North America, and there is no entry fee.

Held in conjunction with the AWFS Fair every two years, the Fresh Wood competition offers a place for students to showcase their work, be introduced to the industry as artists, designers and woodworkers, and be exposed to industry career opportunities.

Woodcraft and other industry organizations have joined together to promote Fresh Wood, which has helped vital school woodworking programs survive, thanks to the recognition received in the competition.

“Woodcraft is happy to support Fresh Wood and the future generation of woodworking designers and builders as part of its ongoing effort to preserve the woodworking craft,” Woodcraft President Jody Garrett said.

There are two ways to contribute to the Woodcraft Fresh Wood Project. Visit woodcraft.com and type the word “donate” in the search box to access the project donation page. Or, if you place an order, you will be given an opportunity to donate as the order is processed.
