Wood flooring continues to be a popular choice for many home owners. Designers and manufacturers are constantly developing new styles, textures and finishes to appeal to that growing demand. One such company introduced a smart hardwood floor that is sure to capture the attention of many, especially the eco-conscious.

Pure Genius by Lauzon, located in Quebec, Canada, is a hardwood floor with air purifying properties. According to the company, Pure Genius "is a natural purifying agent made of titanium dioxide (TiO2) integrated into Lauzon’s titanium floor finish. Activated by natural or artificial light, it breaks down toxic contaminants on contact (formaldehydes and other pollutants present throughout the home) and transforms them into harmless molecules. Its constant and consistent action is so effective that over time, it makes indoor air up to 85% cleaner."

Available on Lauzon's Authentik and Organik Collections, it also comes as an option on additional, selected flooring products. Developed by Swedish firm Välinge and the Danish firm Photocat AB, Lauzon says it is the first company to include the purifying agent in hardwood flooring.
