Dave Skinner We Do ClosetsDave Skinner, ACSP President The end of the road is fast approaching for the "plank and rod" systems. In the next 10 years closets will continue to undergo the same quality and appeal transformation that kitchens have undergone in the last 20 years.

Granite used to be reserved for the elite, dovetail drawers were for fine furniture, and soft-close mechanisms did not exist. These are all common in today's market and are becoming more "standard" rather than "premium upgrade". The Closet industry is part way through it's 20 year maturation as can be seen by the accessories being offered, the media coverage, both magazine and TV, as well as the professionalism being displayed by designers, fabricators and installers.

How are people preparing their businesses for this maturation period? Some will figure it all out by themselves, others will fail and some will work in a cooperative effort to better the industry. The ACSP is here to be THE VOICE of the closet industry. To this end we will continue our efforts to Identify, Educate and Promote the members of our industry, our vendor partners as well as other parties that benefit from a professional closet industry; architects, designers, builders and of course the homeowner.

The Standards committee is getting ready to launch a very exciting initiative that will help closet professionals bring Architects and designers to their door for business. Soon plans will have specifications on them that will require a closet professional. Wouldn't you love it if every remodel and new home project had custom closets? The new initiative will be the tool to drive this new business to your door.

Plank and Rod, it's been great having you around, but it's time to step aside, this closet deserves a pro!
