Paul Donohoe MIke CarsonPaul Donohoe, left, and Mike Carson lead a discussion on preparing a closet business for sale during the ACSP's Executive Forums at the Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo. EDISON, NJ – The Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo got off to a rousing, early-bird start Tuesday with the ACSP Executive Forums & Mixer at the Sheraton Edison Hotel Raritan Center.

The program, cosponsored by the Association of Closet and Storage Professionals and Closets magazine, featured a trio of special presentations aimed at owners and top managers of closet, garage and other home storage solution professionals.

Kevin Doherty, esquire and partner of the law firm Greenwald Doherty, was first on the docket. Doherty’s presentation, “How to Fire and Not End Up in Court,” detailed the key aspects of hiring and firing that are important to all business leaders. Most importantly, he shared his wisdom and experience about the steps that should be taken to fire an employee and not end up in court.

Next, a representative of SCORE shared the benefits of taking advantage of SCORES's mentoring program as part of a winning business strategy. The free program provides a sounding board for entrepreneurs to bounce off ideas for starting or growing a business.

Anchoring the program was Mike Carson, founder and past owner of Closet Works, the largest independent closet system company serving the greater Chicago area. Carson was also instrumental in the creation of the National Closet Group and the Association of Closet and Storage Professionals, serving as each group’s first president.

Carson was joined by Paul Donohoe, founder and former owner of Ridgeway Closets, for the presentation, “Preparing Your Business for Sale.”

The Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo formally kicks of tomorrow with full-day conference programs, also at the Sheraton Edison Hotel. The day will culminate with the Industry Networking Reception, featuring presentations of the 20th Annual Design Portfolio Awards, 7th Annual Top Shelf Awards and ACSP Pioneer Award.
