VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The government of British Columbia announced it will provide $50 million in funds to get more fire-damaged wood, logging waste and other low-value fiber to mills facing supply challenges.

Astara Capital Partners opened the Camden Timbers sawmill in February. The company expects the sawmill to produce more than 50 million board feet of timber and dimensional lumber through its sawmill, kiln, and planer operations.

VANCOUVER, Canada -- Canfor Corp. is closing one sawmill and pellet plant and temporarily closing a second sawmill. The actions will affect nearly 500 workers, and remove approximately 750 million board feet of annual production capacity. The announcement comes just weeks after the company announced it will permanently shut down its pulp mill in Prince George. Canfor is rationalizing its sawmill and pulp mill operations in B.C. to align with a shrinking fiber supply.

West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. will indefinitely curtail its Perry Sawmill in Florida later this month.  The company says the  decision is the result of high fiber costs and softening lumber markets.

Hancock Lumber announces its plans to acquire Madison Lumber Mill. Hancock Lumber’s eastern white pine operations will expand to four mills with its first sawmill acquisition in over twenty years.

Roseburg Forest Products' mill was not damaged and all employees had been safely evacuated.
