"Serpentine Wine Room" was designed by Darryl Hogeback, Savante Wine Cellars, Denver, Colorado. Hogeback was the winner in the Specialty category in the 2016 Top Shelf Closet Design Awards.

Project details:

The client wanted this contemporary wine room to reflect the curves of the wine bottle, the wine glass and the wine barrel. So a mirrored serpentine curve was added on the left and right sides that flows into the decanting reverse curve at the center back area. Steam-bent white oak creates the curved shapes of the racking components.

The shape of the toe kick, lower diamond cabinets, upper racking counter and crown lid reflect this shape. A combination of white oak and walnut was used to accent the contrasting curves of the room. Reclaimed wine barrel staves were used to create the 'Stave Diamond' pattern in the lower side cabinetry. Steam bent white oak creates the curved shapes of the racking components.

Lasered numbers beneath each bottle and at the 'Stave Diamonds' allow for computer inventory of the thousand-bottle storage capacity. Mortise and tenon joinery with dowel rod supports allow for proper airflow around each bottle. Solid curly walnut accents the drawer fronts at the decanting cabinet above the three walnut curved display rows. Dimmable LED lighting strategically placed to set the mood.

All winners for the 2016 Top Shelf Closet Design Awards were announced in March during at a special reception at the Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo in Pasadena, California. See more of the winners here.
