University Students Design Modular Furniture for NASA

HOUSTON, TX -- Prototype modular furniture, designed by a team of five Rice University mechanical engineering students, was conceived for NASA's next space mission to the moon, Mars or beyond.

The students (Laura Blumenschein, Alex Schmidt, Archit Chaba, Rey Amendola and Daniel Peera) developed a floor-mounted chair flexible enough for use in space and a custom, adjustable table. The furniture was designed to accommodate limited space as well as low-gravity environments.
