Lightweight Plywood Made of Balsa Veneers

3A Composites USA introduces a new product to its line, Banova Ply, a lightweight plywood made of balsa veneers. Banova Ply is manufactured by the 3A Composites Core Materials business unit. Lightweight yet strong, Banova Ply, which consists of adhesively bonded balsa veneers, is 50- to 70-percent lighter than conventional wood panels and offers high thermal insulation properties, says the company. Banova Ply is used in rigid panel construction and may be laminated with various facings, including Gator-Ply, Syn-Ply and Luxcell synthetic veneers. Banova Ply is a high-quality homogenous plywood and can be  processed easily with existing woodworking tools and joining techniques, adds the company. Banova Ply is sustainably produced by the 3A Composites Core Materials business unit. 3A Composites owns and cultivates several thousand acres of Forest Steward Council (FSC)-certified balsa plantations in Ecuador. Additionally, Banova Ply is manufactured with formaldehyde-free bonding. Applications for Banova Ply include a wide range of interior applications, such as residential and commercial furniture and interiors; vehicle, yacht and boat interiors; trade show displays and exhibits; and retail-store interiors. Banova Ply is an extremely versatile lightweight balsa plywood designed for cost-effective rigid panel construction, says the company, and is available in 48-inch by 96-inch sheets in the stocked 12mm, 18mm and 25mm thicknesses. Banova Ply may be custom ordered in the 15mm, 30mm and 40mm thicknesses.
