NEWTON, N.C. – Furniture manufacturer, retailer, and distributor Room & Board will invest $12.87 million in a new distribution facility in Newton, North Carolina. The new plant should create at least 13 new jobs by 2020.

The City of Newton and Catawba County approved incentives for the facility, including a grant equivalent to half of the new property taxes over the next three years.

“This facility will support our future growth as well as serve us well logistically with several manufacturing partners nearby,” Room & Board distribution director Jerry Testa said in a news release.

“We are excited that Room & Board has chosen Newton for the location of their new distribution center, and we look forward to working with them as they establish their new facility,” Newton Mayor Anne P. Stedman said in a news release. “We are confident they will find Newton to be a welcoming community eager to help them grow and provide even more opportunities for our citizens and our local furniture manufacturers.”

Room & Board is a Minneapolis-based retailer, manufacturer and distributor of modern artisan-made home furniture and accessories. Founded in 1980, the company is family-owned and privately held.
