INDIANAPOLIS  – Angie’s List  takes on rival services for finding contractors by offering a $100,000 guarantee on work done by remodelers and home improvement services sourced through its site. Angie's List says this insurance outpaces competitors' guarantees in what is becoming a hotly contested sector.

Angie's List is also launching a Fair Price Guarantee pricing protection program, which guarantees that vendors found through its site will bill within a reasonable range of average charges for comparable servics.

Noting that U.S. consumers spend more than $400 billion a year on home improvement, Angie's List says it's research finds the top two concerns of consumers are quality workmanship, and whether they’ll be overcharged. Competitors identified by Angie's List include Porch.com, Task Rabbit, as well as Amazon Home Services, launched in March 2015. Angie's List says its $100,000 guarantee on workmanship far exceeds its competitors: Porch.com offers a $1,000 guarantee on such projects, while Amazon offers $2,500. Task Rabbit has a $1 million liability policy on all its services, which includes food and cleaning delivery as well as home improvement work.

Also competing in the services finders space is RedBeacon.com, part of Home Depot; and HomeAdvisor.com.

Scott Durchslag, Angie’s List president and CEO, says the guarantee levels "prove Angie’s List membership has powerful protections.” The Indianapolis-based company cites its other member benefits that include verified reviews, ratings, and recommendations of service providers from fellow members, background checks; licensing & bonding attestations.

Angie’s Fair Price Guarantee defines fair price as one within the 75th percentile of prices available for the member’s local area for substantially similar services on the Angie’s List marketplace. This guarantee is immediately available to all Angie’s List members.

Angie’s Service Quality Guarantee promises that if a member purchases services through Angie’s List’s ecommerce marketplace and is not satisfied with the quality delivered by the provider, Angie’s List will help make it right or refund up to the purchase price of the ecommerce offer, up to $100,000. The Service Quality Guarantee is available to Plus and Premium members.  Basic membership is not eligible. More information on both guarantees is available on the Angie’s List site.

“We want our members to know that they are getting reliable services at fair prices and that Angie’s List is willing to stand behind their purchases.”said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks.  Angie’s List introduced the Fair Price and Service Quality through a national TV commercial last week.
