The EPA said it moved to reduce exposure to formaldehyde vapors from engineered wood products produced domestically or imported into the United States. The formaldehyde emission standard is guided by California Air Resources Board, and was mandated by Congress.
Pike Lumber Co. has announced plans to expand its operations in Indiana and double its production. The lumber producer is investing $3.4 million to expand and equip its Milan, Indiana-based manufacturing facility. Plans also call to add up to 15 new jobs by 2020.
Canfor Corp. has officially opened two new pellet plants in British Columbia to produce biofuel from the company's sawmills. A $58 million joint venture with Pacific Bioenergy Corp., the Chetwynd and Fort St. John pellet plants have a combined annual capacity of 175,000 tonnes.
The scores have been tallied in determining the overall top states for doing business. But according to recent figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, that's not where you'll find the majority of woodworkers, nor the best paying jobs in the field.
