Mohawk Industries to Acquire Pergo Laminate Flooring for $150M

CALHOON, GA – Mohawk Industries has agreed to buy Pergo laminate flooring for approximately $150 million from Pfleiderer AG of Dusseldorf, Germany.

Pergo laminate flooring The tranaction, expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2013, includes a Pergo factory in Garner, NC, plus Sweden. The pending deal represents Pfleiderer's third major sale of North American wood products businesses in less than a year and completes its withdrawal from the North American market.

Pfleiderer, locked in an ongoing restructuring, sold its Uniboard MDF mill and thermally fused melamine plants in Moncure, NC, to Arauco in the beginning of the year. On October 1, Pfleiderer sold off Uniobard facilities in Canada to Kaycan Ltd. That sale included three particleboard lines, one MDF line, five thermofused melamine lines, a resin plant and two laminate flooring lines.

Mohawk manufacturers carpet, hardwood flooring and laminate flooring, shares several major retail relationships with Pergo, including Home Dept and Lowes. Pergo had abour $320 million in the U.S. and Europe in 2011. 

Mohawk CEO Jeffrrey Lorderbaum, said, "Pergo is a leader in laminate flooring in the U.S. and Nordic countries.  This acquisition complements our specialty distribution network with Pergo's strength in the U.S. DIY channel."
