Cabinet Sales Up 3 Percent First Quarter, Says KCMA

RESTON, VA - U.S. cabinet sales for March 2012 increased 1.6 percent compared to sales for March 2011, according to a survey of its participating members by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association. 

KCMA's monthly Trend of Business Survey saw disparities by category: stock cabinet sales increased 4.1 percent; semi-custom cabinetry sales increased 1.0 percent; while custom sales decreased 8.1 percent.

The year-to-date sales show an increase of 3.0 percent. Stock cabinet sales were up 5.8 percent, semi-custom sales up 2.7 percent, and while custom cabinetry sales fell by 9.1 percent.

The March figures follow three months of increases: KCMA's Trend of Business Survey cabinet sales for February 2012 showed an increase of 5.7 percent versus February 2011. Stock cabinet sales increased 10.3 percent; semi-custom sales increased 3.9 percent; and custom sales decreased 6.9 percent. In January 2012 cabinet sales increased 1.6 percent versus January 2011. Stock cabinet sales increased 2.7 percent; semi-custom sales increased 3.4 percent, while custom sales decreased -12.2 percent.  

KCMA, the major trade association for manufacturers of kitchen cabinets and bath vanities and their suppliers, surveys its members making stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets. All major U.S. cabinet manufacturing companies belong to KCMA; 63 percent of KCMA cabinet manufacturer members report sales under $10 million annually. The group's combined sales represent over 66 percent of the U.S. cabinet market, according to KCMA.
