WASHINGTON – The Hardwood Federation, a public policy advocacy group for the hardwood industry, recently named Dana Lee Cole as its third executive director.

Cole succeeds Deb Hawkinson, who recently became president of the Forest Resources Association.

Cole has served at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) as the vice president of corporate affairs and corporate board secretary since 2004. A native of Michigan, Cole began her career as a policy advisor to Michigan Gov. John Engler and then spent eight years with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

“I’m excited to join the Hardwood Federation,” Cole said. “The impact small and medium-sized businesses have on our economy cannot be overstated, and I’m going to continue to impress upon Congress and the Administration how vital the hardwood community is. Not just to jobs, but to a healthy and sustainable environment, to robust trade policies, and to green building. I’ll also be keeping the Hardwood Federation Political Action Committee moving forward in the hopes of hitting its 2012 fund-raising goals.”

The Hardwood Federation, which has been a vocal opponent of amending the Lacey Act, is made up of more than 20 national, regional and state hardwood-related associations. Members include the American Forest & Paper Association, Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc., Hardwood Plywood & Veneer Association, Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association and the Wood Components Manufacturing Association.
