Gilco Lumber Opening in Masco Mills Pride Plant Topped News

By Bill Esler | Posted: 01/03/2013 12:01PM

A rebirth of Masco Cabinetry's 2.5-million-square foot Mill's Pride plant as a wood products manufacturing center gripped wood industry readers this week.

Masco's Waverly, OH, plant - 11 buildings on 57 acres, 3,000 employees at its peak - reflected  the U.S. housing construction bubble. And its demise symbolized the retreat from the irrational exuberance that lead the U.S. and other developed markets into excess housing construction.

Investors Christopher Semarjian, who runs Industrial Commerce Ltd., near Cleveland, and Stuart Lichter, who heads Industrial Realty Group, near Los Angeles, specialize in buying and revitalizing industrial white elephants around the country: a NASA aerospace building, automobile and tire plants. The modern Masco plants in Waverly made them appealing acquistions for growing manufacturers.

Here are the wood industry's most viewed reprots from last week.
