Deadline Extended for Hardwood Checkoff Comments

Following a request by Hardwood Checkoff opponents, the woodworking industry now has until Sept. 7 to submit comments on the proposed program. The USDA said the 60-day extension will allow "additional time for industry stakeholders and others to review the supplemental notices and provide feedback" on the proposed Hardwood Lumber and Hardwood Plywood Promotion, Research and Information Order (79 FR 68298).

Franklin Adhesives Donates 3,500 Trees

Franklin International covered the cost for 3,500 trees to be planted in the Wilds Conservation Center located in southeastern Ohio. The species of trees that were planted were indigenous to that part of the Ohio river valley. The species include: red oak, chestnut oak, black walnut, sugar maple, and tulip poplar.

First 3D Printed Office to Be Built in Dubai

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - The world's first office building made via 3D printing is slated for construction in Dubai in 2017, the UAE National Innovation Committee announced Tuesday. 

A 20-foot-tall 3D printer will be used to construct the 2,000-square-foot office. 3D printing technology also will be used to produce the office furniture, detailing as well as structural components, which will be made from special reinforced concrete, glass fiber reinforced gypsum and fiber reinforced plastic.
