Thermo Fisher Scientific to close WI plantTWO RIVERS, WI -- Thermo Fisher Scientific, an international manufacturer of products for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, including wood laboratory furniture, plans to close a steel fabricating operation by the end of the year.

The company reportedly informed union officials of its decision to close the plant and move its steel lab manufacturing operations to one of its plants in Mexico. Approximately 120 people will lose their jobs, according to WLUK-TV.

The closing is not expected to impact Thermo Fisher's Two Rivers plant that makes wood lab cabinets. Thermo Fisher also houses the nationally renowned Wood Type Museum, launched in the former site of Hamilton Wood Type, a historic unit of Thermo Fisher.

According to its website, Thermo Fisher employs 37,000 people worldwide and has annual revenues of about $11 billion.  The company's U.S. headquarters is in Waltham, MA.
